Lorelei is Three Months Old!

Hello there! I'm sorry it's been so long since I've posted an update, but things have been a bit busy around here.

This has been a big month for our Little Girl! She's growing over night! At her two month appointment in March she weighed 9lbs, 14 oz.

Last week when I stood on the scale with her and without her, the difference was 11 lbs! We just measured her and she's 23 inches! She has now officially out grown her newborn size clothes.

Here's a picture of the last day she wore her newborn ballerina suit. She could barely straiten her legs an the snaps gaped!

She still fits in the newborn onsies, but they're a bit snug in the shoulders and short in the crotch. In a few more weeks she won't fit in them at all!

Over the past few weeks Lorelei has taken a greater interest in her hands. She's gotten really good at sticking them in her mouth! It's funny to see her trying to stuff them both in her mouth at the same time!

Lorelei's other favorite activity is playing with the dangling toys on her play mat. She kicks and waves her hands and coos and makes happy noises. :)

She can consistently grasp the hanging rings and if I put a rattle in her hand and wrap her fingers around it, she'll hold on and shake it a bit. This morning we actually saw her bring the rattle to her mouth and try to get *in* her mouth! It won't be too long before she is putting everything in her mouth!

She's also getting so strong! She holds her head up for several minutes at a time when she's on her tummy, and yesterday she actually reached out for a toy in front of her! She's also rolled from her tummy to her back a few times. It always seems to surprise her, so it might still be accidental, but she's getting better at it each time!

She also loves playing "Flying Baby!"

Earlier this month Lorelei went to her cousin Will's 1st birthday and met Grammom and PopPop Tolton for the first time!

She also had her first experience in a restaurant -- She was so good! I managed to discretely feed her while we were there and she got passed around enough so that everyone got a chance to eat. :)  Here you can see Lorelei hanging out with her Grammom at the restaurant.

Last Sunday Lorelei had her first visit to Canada and met her Papa Lonsbary and Aunt Bonnie for the first time!

Ottawa is only 2 hours away so it was a fairly easy drive with Lorelei. We fed her before we left and then she slept the whole way there (until the last 5 minutes). Bonnie made a scrumptious potroast and apple crisp and Lorelei charmed everyone with her playful cools and rattle waving. :)
That Wednesday, Ed came down to spend the reast of the week with us. Andrew and Ed spent the day with Lorelei while I was at work on Thursday, and then on Friday, I came home early so the guys could go play with the gadgets at Best Buy. It was a lovely visit. :)

Lorelei has also had a few walks when the weather is nice.  This is the first walk before we got her a sunhat.  She likes walks better now that she has a hat to shade her eyes. :)

Since then she's take a long walk with Daddy & Papa in the baby carrier. He said she slept the whole way. There must be a knack to it that I don't have because when I tried on Friday afternoon, she cried until I took her out of the carrier! She also doesn't like the cute pouch sling that I made for her. Ah well... maybe we just need more practice.

I also had some good news over the last week. First, the poem I wrote about Newborn Feelings got accepted for publication in the Black River Review. The Black River Review is Jefferson Community College Literary Magazine. I'm very excited about that. :)

Second, it turns out that I probably don't need surgery for an inflamed gallbladder. Earlier in March I'd had 3 truly *awful*, excrutiating gallbladder attacks. Honestly it felt a little like labor pains, except higher and with added nausea! I had an ultrasound that did not show any stones, but did show a slightly thickened gallbladder wall, and was refered to a surgeon. The surgeon thought that my symptoms and family history were good indicators of gallbladder disease so he ordered a HIDA scan to confirm. The HIDA scan involved having a radio active material injected into an IV which gets taken up by my liver and then my gallbladder. The substance came in this small, lead lined box and they injected it with a metal syringe. Pretty neat. Then after the material reaches my gallbladder, they injected another medicine that causes my gallbladder to squeeze and empty. I was afraid it would feel like another gallbladder attack, but it just made me cramp a little bit. So I lay on the table, and the technician lowers this big box-like detector down over my abdomen, just under my chin and I spend the next 2 hours watching TV and chatting with the technician. He turned a screen so I could see the material moving through me and it was really neat to see the shape of my liver and gallbladder and a loop of my intestines! The scan showed normal functioning so the surgeon doesn't want to do any unnecessary surgery. He said as long as I was comfortable keeping up the low-fat diet we'd wait and see. The plus size is I've lost a lot of weight!

Andrew is doing a great job taking care of Lorelei while I'm at work. They play with her toys and listen to music and do sit ups. :) He has noticed that she really seems to prefer using her RIGHT hand, although he was the first to see her grab the danling toys wit her left hand. They've started playing a game where he says vowel sounds and she repeats them. It's really cute. She's been trying out all sorts of sounds that I can't figure out how to spell! <grin>

We're really hoping for some warmer weather soon so we can take longer trips outside. We're looking forward to trips to the local park and the zoo. :)

Well that's it from us for now!  Bye and Think Spring!
