Lorelei had a great one month check up!  She weighs 8lbs, 2 oz, and is 21 inches long.  The little boy in the exam room next door was that big when he was born!  Doc said she looks good on all other areas too and was impressed with how well Lorelei is doing holding up her head. :)  She got the 2nd round of her HepB vaccine and might be feeling a little sore today since she's both sleepy and cranky.  Doc told us to give her infant Tylenol every 6 hours and that seem to help.

She is doing pretty well with sleeping at night.  Last night she woke up for feeding at midnight, 2am, 4am and 7am.  After her snack at 7 am we snoozed in bed until 9:30.  SO we're adjusting I think. :)

Andrew has a cold so he's not sleeping with us at night and is trying to stay away from the baby.  He doesn't feel good at all, so hopefully he'll get better soon.

That's all for now!  I'll post some more pictures soon. :)

Lorelei is One Month Old!!

The Many Faces of Lorelei...

I can't believe she's been with us for a whole month.  This has been one of the most amazing, awesome, exhausting, joyous, terrifying, uplifting and excellent months of my life.  There is at least one moment in everyday, no matter how tired or frazzled I feel, when I look at her in amazement of the natural processes that allow us to make this tiny, little new life.

I'm amazed at the changes we've already seen in Baby Girl in just these few weeks.  She's gotten bigger and longer (I swear this has happened just over the past 2 nights!).  She's already filling out her newborn clothes and soon, those 0 - 3 month clothes won't seem so big either!  We'll get her official One Month weight and length at her check-up on Thursday.
The Good Picture

The Out-take Picture!
Here is what Lorelei can do at one month old:
  • She tracks a toy if you move it from side to side in front of her.
  • She looks at lights (well she's always done this, but she looks at them more often now).
  • She focus more at the center of the face, maybe our eyes?  She seems to like looking right at your eyes.
  • She continues to really work at holding up her head, and has started pushing with her arms and legs a little bit.
  • She has discovered that those things at the end of her arms are good for sucking on.  Some times she even manages to find her thumb.  I'm not sure she really has contorl of her arms yet as she still wacks herself in the head sometimes and then looks surprised. :)
We have learned that:
  • She likes to be held upright
  • She likes to be swiveled from side-to-side
  • She can tell the difference between being jiggled when yo're sitting down and being jiggled when you're walking and she'd prefer you kept walking, thank you very much!
  • Actually, she would really rather you just walk her up and down the stairs several times, if you don't mind.
  • She would rather be held then be put down to nap in her bed or in her bouncy chair
  • She still hates diaper changes or being dressed or undressed.  Although lately she's been fine during the diaper change and then screams once we have her all dressed again.  We've checked to make sure nothing is pinching her or anything, so we aren't exactly sure why she does this.
We're seeing more periods of awake/alert/happy for several minutes at a time.  During these periods, she looks all over, makes little sounds that might soon turn into coos and makes facial expressions that will probably soon be smiles.  These periods make up for the other periods of drawn out crying and screaming. :)

We've purchased a baby tub and given Lorelei her first tub bath.  This worked in that we got her clean, but it was not at all relaxing for Momma, Daddy or Baby.  We need more practice.  And she pooped in the tub... we're still not sure exactly how to handle this since baby poo is runny (sorry for the image).  So do you change the water completely or just make sure you soap her up and rinse her off well in the clean rinse water?  In either case, it's nice not to do sponge baths, but we definitely need to work on the tub bath techniques!  I brought the camera up but then we ran out of hands. :)

The other day it was warmish (36 degrees) and bright and sunny and Momma "NEEDED A WALK!"  So we all bundled up, tucked Miss Fussy into Andrew's jacket and then walked around the block to the mail box and back.  Fun for us... she fell asleep. :)

On Super Bowl Sunday my friend Melissa had a non-Super Bowl Party. ;)  We stopped by for an hour and had a nice time. Everyone said how cute Lorelei was.  Which she is.  She did pretty well being around other people and noisy conversations.  She fussed a bit until I fed her and then Andrew held her and she fell asleep until we put her back in her car seat to go home.  Once the car was moving, she was asleep again in about 3 minutes. :)  Maybe next time we go out, I'll even let other people hold her. :)

I've enjoyed my time at home with my new little family.  I've even managed to get some work done on my online classes, although Baby Girl wants to be held all the time, we've found ways to accommodate her. :)

She's sleeping a little better at night.  The past few nights she's slept for more than one 2 hr stretch, interspersed with a 45 min stretch.  So we're getting a little more sleep.  I still go up to bed around 10 and Lorelei sleeps on Daddy's lap until Andrew comes up around 12.  I feed her and if we're lucky she sleeps until 2 and then until 4 and then until 6 (give or take a few feedings).  Around 6 she needs her diaper changes so we're both awake.  Then I feed her again and we sleep until about 7:30.  Then I pull her into bed with us, she has a snack and then snoozes on my belly from about 8 until about 9am when we all get up.  So over all, not too bad.  She typically eats again around 10am and then sleeps for anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours.

We're doing much better with breast feeding, although she gets so excited some times that she squirms herself right off the nipple and I have a time getting her to relax enough to get her re-latched.  She's definitely learned the steps that precede nursing and she gives an almost smile and makes a cute little "ahh" sound as I get ready.  :)

That's all from the Lonsbary Household for now! :)  Thanks For Reading!
